CHINESE yard Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore, soon to deliver its second semi-submersible to rig owner COSL Drilling Europe (CDE), has submitted a bid to build yet another unit for the same owner, writes Xu Yihe.

The sixth-generation newbuild COSL Innovator, rated to operate in 750 metres of water, has returned from sea trials and is scheduled for delivery on 21 October.
COSL Innovator is one of the three semisubs ordered so far by CDE at CIMC Raffles. The COSL Pioneer was delivered last November while the COSL Promoter is to be delivered at the end of this year.
A unit of China Oilfield Service Ltd (COSL), CDE is understood to have signed an eight-year charter agreement for the newbuild with Statoil of Norway, with an option to extend for another eight years, according to sources.
A similar charter agreement is said to have been lined up between CDE and Statoil for the COSL Promoter.
Meanwhile, CIMC Raffles submitted its bid to CDE last week to build a fourth unit, COSL Prospector. Also bidding for this job are Chinese yards Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Company (DSIC Offshore). |
