The real funnel is just a pipe extending from the engine to the air. Such a pipe is not good in looking usually. So we specially use steel plating to surround it in bigger size and beautiful shape and make a so-called "funnel" as what we see usually. Such a "funnel" is of course a false one,or a "dummy funnel",though we just say "funnel" always.
Talking about "funnel", I would like to add something more. Though a "funnel" is an artificial part in a ship, its outlook in design is rather important to a ship's general image. However, in the old days say before 1979, sometimes the design of a ship's "funnel" might be added with political colour. Some beautiful "funnel" was critisized and crowned as “bourgeois".Now, it is different. |
