Refer IACS REC_2_Type of hatch cover required if a lower deck is designated as the freeboard deck
Type of hatch cover required if a lower deck is designated as the freeboard deck (Regulations referred to in this Recommendation correspond to those of the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966) Regulation 27(6) requires Type B ships assigned freeboards in accordance with Table B of Regulation 28 to be fitted in Position 1 with hatchcovers complying with the requirements of Regulation 15(7) or 16, i.e. steel hatch covers. In the event that the second deck is nominated as the freeboard deck in accordance with Regulation 3(9), then such steel hatchcovers would be required in the forward quarter length of the upper deck (Regulation 13 refers). However, if the vessel was considered with wood hatchcovers throughout the exposed upper deck and this deck was used as a freeboard deck, then the freeboard calculated in accordance with Regulation 27(10) would give considerably greater draught than if the second deck were nominated. It is agreed that this anomaly in the Rules should be accepted as written. |
