Regarding the welding between bottom shell plate and new members on afloat condition,
the following requirements to be applied to.
104. Repair works
1. Welding of underwater shell plates is permissible
for the shell plate with its thickness of 12.7 mm and over.
However, the welding shall not be permitted for aged ships, rivetted ships
and/or ships of her shell plate made of high tensile steel.
Also, shipowners of ships welded like this is to be advised to
repaint their ships at their earliest opportunity as this kind of welding often damage the shell plates.
To do this, a new WPS to be approved before such welding commenced. |
