TANKS OF SHIPS ForewordMSC.215(82) prescribes the preparation of steel substrates before application of paints and related products for ballast tanks of ships:
o
Sa2½ with abrasive blasting during block coating; o
surface treatment of
butts (after erection) shall be carried out by means of tool grinding, o
small damages up to 2% of total area: St 3. o
Contiguous damages over 25 m 2 or over 2% of the total area of the tank, Sa 2½ should be applied. This guidance notes is drawn in order to satisfy with the demands of modern shipbuilding and standard of IMO due to there is no assessment and calculation method of coating damaged areas for ballast tanks of ships all over the world.

B)非合拢对接缝涂层破损
Non-butts coating damages can be divided into grade 1 coating damages and grade 2 coating damages in accordance with the difference of damaged grade. 非合拢对接缝涂层破损按破损程度的不同又分为1级涂层破损和2级涂层破损 Can be divided into piece coating damages and line coating damages in accordance with the length-width ratio of coating damages areas. 按涂层破损区域的长宽比的不同又可分为片状涂层破损和线状涂层破损。
Assessment and calculation of non-butts coating damages areas
非合拢对接缝涂层破损面积的评估和计算 Calculation of grade 1 coating damages areas1级涂层破损面积的估算 Confirm the percentage of damaged areas refer to ASTM D610-01 of annex 1. 对照附录1所引用的ASTM D610-01的图片确定破损面积百分比。 Calculation of grade 2 coating damages areas2级涂层破损面积的计算 Calculation of grade 2 coating damages areas: separate calculates by each ballast tank. 2级涂层破损面积计算:以每个压载舱单独计算 Each coating damages area can be calculated from similar figure area, refer to figure 2, also can be confirmed by using Photograph Crossing method. 单个破损涂层面积可由近似规则图形面积计算得出,参见图2,也可采用照片划格法确定。
