The minimumdistance between the two bulkheads or decks should be sufficient for safeaccess and inspection. In order to meet the single failure principle, in theparticular case when a corner-to-corner situation occurs, this principle may bemet by welding a diagonal plate across the corner (see figure of regulation4.5.1 in the appendix). No cargo, wastes or other goods should be contained incofferdams. Cofferdam may be a void space or a ballast space. Thefollowing spaces may also serve as cofferdams: oil fuel tanks as well as cargopump rooms and pump rooms not having direct connection to the machinery space,passage ways and accommodation spaces. The clear spacing of cofferdam bulkheadsis not to be less than 600 mm. |
