Category HDLS: Owing to the increasing tensile loads carried by landing strings, especially in deepwater, this 6th Category has been added. The equipment used in a HDLS shall not used for any other purpose other than to land casing into subsea wellheads, or run and land liners into the well bore. A heavy duty landing string would be defined as: All the components to be used in a casing landing operation from and including the casing running tool up to and including the top drive main shaft, where either; (1) the buoyed weight of the assembly exceeds one million pounds, (2) Any component in the load path, other than the drill string, is loaded beyond 85% of its rated tensile capacity, (3) The buoyed weight of the assembly exceeds 70% of the drill pipe’s rated tensile capacity when using conventional slips or 90% when using slipless technology. |
