9 Windows
9.1 Construction (1 July 2012)
Windows are defined as being rectangular openings, or round or oval openings, with an area exceeding 0.16 m2.
Windows may only be fitted in the following locations:
i) In front bulkheads of deckhouse and superstructures, in the second tier and higher above the freeboard deck. In the first tier of front bulkheads above the weather deck portlights are acceptable.
ii) In the after end bulkheads and sides of deckhouses and superstructures in the second tier and higher tiers.
iii) In first tier deckhouses that are not considered buoyant in the stability calculations and that do not protect openings leading below.
Portlights are required in locations not specified above.
Window frames are to be metal or other approved material and secured to the adjacent structure. Window cutouts are to have a minimum of 6.5 mm (0.25 in.) radius at all corners and the glazing is to be set into the frames in an approved, flexible seawater and sunlight resistant packing or compound. Special attention is to be paid to the windows installed in angled deckhouse fronts. |
