Petrobras has requested that Sevan Marine deepwater semisubmersible Sevan Driller be installed offshore Brazil for its first drilling program, rather than the Gulf of Mexico as initially agreed.
The preliminary drilling schedule expects exploratory wells to be drilled in the Tupi field in the Santos basin pre-salt cluster offshore Brazil. Sevan Driller will be equipped for initial operations in 2,400 meters (7,874 ft) water depth instead of 1,500 meters (4,921 ft) as initially agreed. The start-up date for the drilling program is mid-2009. Petrobras will cover the extra costs related to the change of location and specifications.
Construction of Sevan Driller is continuing on schedule at Cosco's Nantong shipyard in China. Aker Kvaerner's production and delivery of the drilling package is also on schedule. The drill floor, produced by Aker Kvaerner at the Nymo shipyard in Norway, has been shipped to China for installation, four weeks ahead of schedule. |
