The Terra Nova FPSO is a FPSO built for the Terra Nova Field (part of the Newfoundland offshore fields in Canada). The lessons learned from the construction of the Terra Nova would be used to refine the design of the White Rose FPSO.
Construction
The hull and superstructure was built as Hull number 5901 at the Daewoo Shipbuilding yards in South Korea. Some of the topsides were produced locally in Newfoundland, including at Marystown Shipyard. The final topside assembly was performed at the Bull Arm facility. The turret was produced in Abu Dhabi.
Hull Form
With Terra Nova, as per most FPSO's, capacity was the most important consideration. The hull form is very full, with a transom stern, high block coefficient, and significant length of parallel middlebody. The superstructure (and all acomodation) is forward mounted with a helipad, and there is a moon pool (for the turret/spider arrangement) somewhat foreward of amidships. The Terra Nova utilizes a steel double-hull, which is reinforced for ice. The cargo tanks are divided longitudinally on the centreline. There is a single chine, transitioning from a slab-side to a shallow-draft-angle, with a flat bottom and small-radius turn of the bilge.

Deck Arrangement
The main deck has 8 modular blocks behind the superstructure. From fore to aft, they are the turret unit, water injection unit, high pressure seperation/compression unit, glycol/water unit, low-pressure seperation/compression unit, power unit, flare tower, and offloading unit.
FPSO Selection
The choice of an FPSO for Terra Nova was likely due to environmental conditions. The Grand Banks are notorious for ice conditions; the FPSO can be disconnected and moved if required. The water depth was a bit too deep and the field a bit too small to warrant a GBS, such as was used for Hibernia.
