韩国大宇造船获得一份来自亚洲船东的订单，定造4艘400,000DWT的VLOC船，价值约为4.6亿美元。据国际船舶网了解，新船长362米宽65米，将成大宇造船有史以来最大船舶。该船还配备了最新的压载系统，可提高货物装卸效率。
大宇造船透露，目前各个迹象表明公司新船订单正逐步回暖。而总经理Nam Sang-tae也表示：“如果船东的投资放宽并且许多国家正打算退出，我们有望在此合同后能斩获其它新订单。”
同时，面对世界最大矿砂出口商--淡水河谷的船队扩展计划，这4艘VLOC也可能与淡水河谷有一定的关系。据国际船舶网了解，淡水河谷将计划建立一个拥有50艘VLOC的船队。并已经在熔盛重工订造了12艘船以及阿曼航运也在熔盛重工订造了4艘与淡水河谷有关的VLOC。它还将通过和STX泛洋签订租船合同向STX造船定造8艘VLOC。这家铁矿石生产商还购买了至少15艘二手船。该公司可能会在亚洲船厂定造更多的VLOC。

DSME books $460 million VLOC order
Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. said Tuesday it has received a US$460 million order to build four 400,000 dwt very large ore carriers.

DSME identified the customer only as "a client in Southeast Asia." Speculation is, however, that the customer is either Brazilian mining giant Vale, or an owner who will charter the ships to Vale.

Vale has been coy about its extensive ore carrier building program in Korea as it has been criticized by Brazilian President Lula da Silva for not building the ships in Brazilian yards. The $460 million price tag for the ships is a drop in the bucket in terms of Vale's overall capital expenditure program. Earlier this month it said its investment program for 2010 would reach $12.9 billion and that it would "continue to invest a sizeable amount of funds in our railroads, maritime terminals, shipping and power generation."
