Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering's Mangalia facility in Romania, Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries has signed a newbuilding contract to build four LR2 tankers with Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (East Med).
The Greek owner confirmed that it booked an order for four newbuilding tankers, deliveries slated for the first half of 2015, but refused to disclose the price. It said the price is in line with market levels.
East Med took an opportunity of low newbuilding and secondhand prices and has been seeking to expand its fleet.
The shipowner is sitting on four 1,700-teu and two 2,190-teu boxships at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard of China, one 1,700-teu containership and a pair of MR PCs at SPP Shipbuilding in Korea.
Also, East Med revealed that it is currently in talks with Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group-affiliated Yangzhou Dayang Shipbuilding for 1+1 63,000-dwt bulkers.
