Scorpio Tankers is expected to add more orders for LR2 product carriers shortly.
Industry players prospected that amid massive orders from major owners at Korean shipbuilders, Scorpio would move quickly to place new orders before the yard slots disappear.
Besides undisclosed number of LR2 PC options at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, the New York-listed owner would seek empty slots in other Korean shipbuilders for the same class newbuildings.
Earlier this month, Scorpio booked a pair of 114,000-dwt PCs and additional options at Hyundai Samho for $49.75m apiece with delivery slated for Q3 2014.
While the precise number of newbuildings or vessel types/sizes, the exact time to order, etc., have been unrevealed, sources said the owner secures about $500m worth of buying power.
Meanwhile, Scorpio recently funded $235m in new equity from a secondary offering earlier this month for the payment of latest newbuildings.
