China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) is to join United Arab Shipping Corp (UASC)'s ultra-large newbuilding project.
Sources said that CSCL is positively reviewing to participate in UASC's project as a joint owner.
UASC plans to place orders for 14,000-18,000 teu containership series, which are estimated to cost less than the price of 13,500-teu boxships, which UASC previously ordered in 2008 at around $170m apiece.
According to sources, shipyards are to hand in commercial offers by March and several shipbuilders in Korea and China are said to have submitted technical proposals recently.
Brokers said that UASC is fussy over ship specification, such as propulsion system, emissions, etc.
