China’s port city, Qingdao, located in Shandong province, saw a sharp growth in shipbuilding industry, offshore facility industry and harbor related industries that its gross production in 2012 amounted to CNY 37.81bn ($6bn) with a 19.4% increase year-on-year.
By segment, shipbuilding industry made a total of CNY 15.45bn worth of production in 2012 while offshore industry earned CNY 12.5bn with shipping industry, CNY 9.86bn.
Last year, Qingdao Yangfan Shipbuilding succeeded in launching a 205,000DWT bulker for the first time in Shandong province that 2012 is said to be a notable year for shipbuilding industry to have shown a great performance.
Moreover, it is said that Qingdao’s shipbuilders are aggressively seeking more orders, keeping an eye on market changes and putting a lot of efforts in technology innovation. Take an example of Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, it invested in vessel components and research and development for new models in 2012 that it eventually succeeded in winning not a few orders.
