Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries appears to have won a contract for two 200,000DWT bulkers from China Steel Express (:CSE) on March 4, a suBSIdiary of Taiwan’s China Steel.
Newbuilding price for the capesize bulkers is said to be $52.5m per vessel and deliveries are scheduled in the latter half of 2014 and the first half of 2015, respectively.
CSE says it is aggressively pushing forward to newbuilding projects from the year before last, ordering three 200,000DWT bulkers at Japanese shipyard and two 35,000DWT bulkers at Taiwan’s CSBC.
After ordering these two bulkers, CSE is planning to settle the fleet expansion for the time being.
Meanwhile, vessels that CSE owns so far, including the ones under construction, are 16 capesize bulkers, one panamax bulker and four handysize bulkers that total shipping capacity after deliveries by 2015 is expected to reach 3.2m DWT.
