Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of Korea has recently booked a total of 10 product carriers.
Scorpio Tankers announced on February 28 that it has awarded overall six PCs at Hyundai Mipo. The New York-listed owner exercised options with Hyundai Mipo for the construction of four MR Product tankers for approximately $33.0 million each and two Handymax ice class-1A (37,000 DWT) product tankers for approximately $31.25 million each.
These newbuildings come with fixed-price options for the construction of four additional Handymax vessels as well as an extension on previously obtained fixed-price options.
The two of MR Product tankers are scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2014, while the rest two MR PCs will be delivered in the second half of 2014. And the two Handymax vessels will be delivered early in the third quarter of 2014.
The Company has a total of 26 newbuilding product tanker orders with Hyundai Mipo and SPP Shipbuilding of Korea which include 20 MR and six Handymax ice class-1A vessels. The Company also has fixed-price options to construct a total of 12 additional newbuilding product tankers at these yards.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Mipo is said to have inked an order to build two 50,000-dwt MR PCs and two options with European owner Gestion Maritime.
The order for two ships, valued in around $32.5m apiece, to be delivered in the first half of 2015. An official from Gestion said the newbuildings are the most recent IMO 2 MR design, with the highest fuel efficiency. Gestion expects savings of $8,000 to $9,000 per day compared to existing MR tankers.
The Korean shipbuilder also scored an order for a pair fo 49,000-dwt product tankers from Central Mare of Greek through its joint Vietnamese-South Korean yard Hyundai-Vinashin last December. They are to be delivered in the end of 2014 and early of 2015.
