While China International Marine Containers (CIMC) is said to be under negotiation with shipyards for orders up to 20 post-panamax containerships, sources said China Shipbuilding Industry Co Ltd (CSICL)'s suBSIdiary Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co is highly likely to put pen on the deal.
Under a long-term charter from Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), CIMC is seeking to book order for 8,800-teu boxships.
Regarding the deal, an offical from CSICL said that they have kept a good relationships with CIMC, therefore DSIC could be the primary partner with the owner.
And added “Whether we will take as many as 20 orders depends on the docking capacity at DSIC and the requested delivery schedule.”
The newbuildings could fetch around $82.4m apiece, similar to 9,200-teu boxships placed orders by CIMC at DSIC and Korean-owned STX Dalian in a CMA CGM deal.
