We witnessed a total of eight ships being
named in a week.
The vessels were H.1172~1173(a 180,000 DWT
Bulk Carriers for GMM), H.4136(a 14,000 TEU
Containership for MSC), H.4144(a 4,400 TEU
Containership for T&H), and H.2283~2286
(210,100 CBM Large LNGCs for QGTC).
What is significant is this is the very first joint naming
of 4 vessels ever at DSME.
For these L-LNGCs, owned by Qatar Gas Transport
Company Ltd.(Nakilat), there were approximately
100 personnel members that attended on July 3rd.
Distinguished guests presented at the ceremony
included Mr. Muhammad Ghannam, Managing
Director of QGTC, Mr. Rob Dakers, COO of QG4
Venture of Qatargas, as well as Mr. Sang-Tae Nam,
President & CEO of DSME.
H.2283 was named 'AL KHATTIYA' by Ms. Sara
Bailouni, daughter of Mr. Samir Bailouni, Fleet
Management Director of QGTC, and H.2284
received the name 'AL KARAANA' by
Ms. Noora Ali Al-Kharji, LNG Sales Administrator
of Qatargas. H.2285 and H.2286 were christened
respectively by Mrs. Johara Al-Marwani, spouse of
Mr. Mohammed Al-Naimi, Director & General
Manager of South Hook LNG as 'AL NUAMAN',
and by Mrs. Fatma Mohammad Essa Al-Haddad,
spouse of Mr. Ali Haidar Al-Kharraz, Shift Supervisor
from Qatargas as 'AL BAHIYA'.
In regards to the technical merits on those vessels,
there are two slow-speed diesel engines with twopropeller
propulsion that will ensure 30% fewer
emissions than the conventional LNGCs.
At the ceremony QGTC presented DSME with a
worker's fund worth $ 80,000.
All vessels are scheduled to be delivered by the
fourth quarter of 2009.
The last four vessels named completed a combined
order totaling 26 vessels that Qatargas placed with
DSME.
On June 30th, H.1172, and H.1173 received the
names 'Navios Bonavis' and 'Navios Happiness'
respectively.
H.1172 was named by Mrs. Angeliki Frangou,
Chairwoman and CEO of Navios. In regards to
H.1173, her name was given by Mr. Leonidas
Korres, Director of Navios Maritime Partners LP.
In celebration of the naming of these two ships, Mr.
Ted Petrone, President of the Navios Corporation,
and Mr. W. K. Ki, Senior Executive Vice President
of DSME, and 40 other personnel members attended.
Delivery closing for H.1172 was made the day
before the naming ceremony on the 29th, and the
delivery of H.1173 is set for July.
On the 1st of July, DSME held another naming
ceremony for MSC owned vessel H.4136 at
quay C.
Ms. Camille Pruvost, daughter of Mr. Pierre
Pruvost, Agency Manager of MSC France SA
(Montoir) was invited to play an honourable role of
naming the vessel as 'MSC CAMILLE'. Delivery
closing for H.4136 was made on the same day.

Wearing safety helmet has been handed out to personnel commuting to
and from work by bicycle.
The campaign was initiated by DSME to reduce the possibility of injury
to personnel in the event of an accident while commuting to and from
work.
As many as 200 safety helmets have been already distributed for free to
motivate bicyclists to start a new habit of wearing a safety helmet.
If you commute by bicycle, safety helmets can be purchased at a
discounted rate (13,000 Won) at snack bars within the yard.
Buying a helmet is the cheapest insurance policy you will ever buy. |
