The Fedra engines failed to start, efforts to secure new lines from 3 large tugs failed. It dragged it's anchors until there was no where to go. It was pinned up against the cliffs below the Europa Point light house. Four of the ships crew were air lifted to safety by the galant efforts of the Spanish Coast Guard but high winds, pilot fatigue, fuel shortage thwarted further attempts, as the helicopter had already been hovering for 2 hours. A land base construction crane with cage lifted the remaining 27 fillopino crew to safety. The video shows the result of one night's battering against the limestone cliffs of Gibraltar

Fedra Shipwreck
The Fedra is a Liberian-registered cargo ship that smashed aground off Europa Point in the Strait of Gibraltar during a force 11 gale on October 10, 2008. The engines failed and the 24-year-old ship ran aground dragging its anchor, despite the efforts of two tugboats to keep it off the rocks.
All of the 31 sailors were rescued from the ship's deck, half of them by Spanish maritime helicopters. Shortly after the rescue, the Fedra broke into pieces
