The Marine Superintendent ensures the safe operations of ships and compliance to all international marine requirements. He/she assists in the implementation and upkeep of the Safety Management System and will be required to conduct regular ship inspections to ensure compliance to the statutory requirements. The Marine Superintendent also ensures compliance to the organisation’s risk management framework.

The Marine Superintendent is also responsible for conducting pre-vetting inspection onboard the ship and followup. He provides guidance to the Ship Captain/Master onboard for nautical matters and also conducts incident investigation onboard the ship. He promotes and develops a culture of continuous improvement in pursuit of organisational objectives

要是个工程公司，这个岗位要求就不是一般的高，既要懂船舶，也要懂工程。

对应的还有机务，一般由轮机长来担任；
相当于一个管甲板部，一个管轮机部
