"Tonnage" and "Ton"

"Tonnage" and "Ton" are very common terms which we working in shipping/maritime circle are facing.

Sometimes I saw following information about a ship on a certificate or I heard someone said:
"Gross Tonnage: 10000 Tons"

What do you think?

it is not correct,
the correct one can be " Gross Tonnage: 10000 GT" or "Gross tannage: 10000"
