My friends, "Mud Dog" is a trade mark for that specially designed mud wiper in drilling.

and see the sketch there.
That is related to oil drilling indrustry offshore or onshore.

Coming to our shipbuilding industry or ship operation, sometimes one might see or say the term "door dog" such as saying "door dogs of the watertight door to be repaired". Most of the people would be confused by the word "dog" used herewith. What is the real meaning of "dog" here? It is simple, it is exactly the "handle", "door
handle".
When one engages in foreign maritime and shipping business, he or she should learn more English maritime terms.
For your information, "kitchen","left side","right side",...... saying onshore is called "galley","port side","starboard side",..... onboard a ship respectively.
There are still many other "crazy" terms, such as "monkey island","wildcat",etc.. |
