Cooling Water System The cooling for the process units is provided by a fresh water cooling water system. Cooling water is sent to the various users throughout the process at 33‘C and returns at 43‘C. The entire cooling water stream will flow past the Cooling Water Expansion Drum, 27-V-0105, which removes any bubbles from the system. The Cooling Water Expansion Drum sits at the highest point of the system and is open to the atmosphere. A gas detector sits at the outlet of the vent pipe and will alarm if any hydrocarbons are released from the coolingwater.
From the Cooling Water Expansion Drum, the water is pumped using the Cooling Water Pumps, 27-P-0104 A/B/C, which work in a 3x 50 %arrangement with two pumps online and one spare. The pump discharge flows to the Cooling Water /Seawater Exchangers, 27-E-0101 A/B/C, where the cooling water is cooled to 33‘C against seawater. The exchangers are plate and frames and, like the pumps, are designed as 3 x 50 %to allow for two exchangers to be online with one spare. The cooling water is then sent to the cooling water supply header to be distributed around the process.
