Generator / motor drive ( hereafter called HSG Drive)

The HSG Drive is an electric converter which is able to feed electric power in either direction.

When the asynchronous machine is driven as generator (PTO), the HSG Drive converts the voltage of variable frequency from the asynchronous machine (generator) to a fixed AC voltage of fixed frequency (440 V / 60 Hz). The Main Switchboard will see the HSG Drive in the same way as it sees a normal generator set with fixed voltage and frequency.

When the asynchronous machine is driven as electric motor (PTI), the HSG Drive converts the voltage of fixed frequency from the Main Switchboard into a voltage of variable frequency suitable for running the asynchronous machine (motor) at optimized speed regarding the main propeller.
