Dalian to build 2 semi-submersibles for Sirius Offshore
Chinese yard Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corp won an order to build two semi-submersibles for flotel contractor start-up Sirius Offshore Accommodation. The contract is worth approximately $315m for each unit. It includes an option for two more units.
The high-specification, harsh-environment semi-submersibles are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2014, while options for the two additional units must be exercised within 18 and 30 months respectively.
The flotels will be designed for a 30-year life and be able to withstand high waves in harsh environments without the need to be demobilized from the field. They have capacity for 490 workers.
