Pigs & Piggable Valves
Pigs come in many shapes and sizes depending upon the application. For paint, pigs are typically small polyurethane foam, bullet-shaped objects. Their outer diameter is slightly larger than the inside diameter of the tubing to be cleaned in order to provide an good seal against the tubing wall.
Piggable color change valves allow the pigs to pass as close as possible to the color change manifold to mininize any dead spots between the valve and manifold.
Pig Launchers & Receivers
Pig launchers and receivers are the mechanical means for inserting and removing the pig. Launchers are equipped with a gas connection that is used for pushing the pig through the tubing network. Receivers provide the means to recover product and the pig.
Launchers are located after the supply filter while the receiver is installed prior to the backpressure regulator. In between, the paint tubing is installed in a ring loop configuration to the paint stations.
Depending upon the paint system configuration, piggable color change valves may direct paint straight to the gun or to a port on a traditional color change valve assembly. It is not uncommon to install piggable valves integrated with a traditional color changer stack assembly. |
