Hyundai Heavy Industries is considering setting up a new shipyard in Nigeria where a state government claims a preliminary deal has already been penned.
The South Korean behemoth signed a memorandum of understanding with Bayelsa State Government for construction of the facility, according to Nigerian newspaper Vanguard.
The yard will be built on Brass Island in the Niger Delta region and could create up to 2000 jobs, according to the report.
A Hyundai source confirmed that the company is looking at setting up a yard in Bayelsa but that nothing has been confirmed as yet.
The Vanguard report claims the facility will contain a training facility as well as other component parts, and that it could be completed in 18 months. |
