‘Bulksafe’ water Ingress detection monitoring & alarm System draws upon almost 30 years of PSM’s experience in supplying monitoring and alarm systems in shipboard liquid levels to provide a robust, reliable, simple to install and operate solution for this critical water ingress detection in cargo application for bulk carrier safety. To cover all applications a choice of sensors fittings are offered. All are solid state devices with no float or other mechanisms to fail, or in-built filters requiring regular cleaning, they provide a 4-20mA
2 wire output which gives 4mA when the cargo hold is empty. This ‘live zero’ signal provides an immediate indication of sensor health, a feature not available to simple switch devices. Any water ingress which is detected while the tanker is underway will immediately cause this output signal to rise triggering an alarm condition. Bulksafe systems require only one sensor per hold to detect both pre and main alarm conditions, sensor and system operation may be checked at any time irrespective of hold status by using a simple test mechanism built into the deck termination enclosure. No additional compressed air or water services are needed to effect this test. Installation / retrofit is simple, the sensor is supplied with the required length of cable and simply mounts within a shipyard supplied pipe, clamped to the inside of the tank, or externally flange mounted. Where holds have a lower stool and or a keel duct alternative installations are possible PSM provide a full range of support fittings and tank penetrations to suit any requirement and will be happy to supply suggested installation drawings. Operation Simplicity of operation is a key feature. The user is guided by a full menu structure and all messages and prompts are provided in plain English on a backlit LCD display. Dedicated function buttons provide immediate ‘shortcuts’ to auto-calibrate and system tests, and dedicated visual annunciations provide immediate identification of ‘all clear’, “Alarm, active”, “system fault” and “power-fail” conditions. Alarms Water ingress detection in cargo alarm conditions also trigger an internal relay which may be used to drive external remote mounted audible and visual annunciations. If required repeater displays are available for remote locations These communicate with the primary display via a 2 wire RS485 serial link and provides an overview of the entire system status. This remote display can also be used to acknowledge alarm conditions. Multiple remote displays can be connected if required. |
