shutdown 一般是紧急关断，stop却一般指正常的停车。

内容不懂专业问题，只是从词面看，SHUT DOWN应该是指关机，停止工作意思，就好比播放器上的方块键，而STOP应该是暂停的意思，只是暂时停止主机运转，好比播放器上的双竖线键。

在理论和概念上，
"shut down", “关闭”也。按“关闭”，没电源，即 “POWER OFF”，则工作中的装置自然就“停止”--“STOP".

但按“STOP" 的装置则未必 “关闭”（SHUT DOWN)电源,即电源未必断开。

这要看控制板面的设计,开关类别和接线。
有的按"STOP",既“停止”（STOP),又“关闭”（SHUT DOWN),可洗手，拜拜。

开汽车的网友不妨想想，“SHUT DOWN" 好比 “停车熄火”；而“stop“ 只是“停车”，女朋友下了车你又开走了。

开船也是这样。大船靠好码头，一切妥当，船长一句：“FINISH BY ENGINE", 即"SHUT DOWN
ENGINE"也，而不是先前靠码头过程中，船长老发令 "SLOW AHEAD",“STOP","SLOW ASTERN","STOP"......

shut down :关掉电源、水等的供应；stop:停止。有的情况下同意，有的情况略有区别。

shut down 是只非正常的停车，是主机的安保系统为了保护主机而停车的，而STOP是正常的停车

The main engine is automatically shutdown, shutdown lamps are lighted and buzzers sound simultaneously for the following emergency fault conditions:
1. M/E overspeed (non cancellable)
2. M/E L.O. pressure very low (non cancellable)
3. R/G L.O. pressure very low (non cancellable)
4. M/E H.T. C.W. temp. very high (cancellable)
5. Oil mist high density (non cancellable)
Reset function of the automatic shutdown is pushing the blocking/reset push button at engine side starting box.
Resetting is unable unless the abnormal condition has returned normal.
