One worker died and another is missing after an offshore unit of Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) collapsed in the Caspian Sea off Azerbaijan on November 6th, the company said in a release.Five workers were dispatched on scene to the Unit No.307 to shut down gas supply battery and prevent a fire or oil leakage into the sea from a pipe damaged by collapsed 60 meter overpass.
However, on their way back, the offshore unit on which they were standing collapsed causing them to fall into the sea.
Three people were rescued from the water, one was found dead whereas the remaining person is still missing, according to SOCAR.
Search is underway for the missing person.
Over two weeks ago, four workers were killed
in a similar accident that occurred on Oct. 23 at a nearby offshore platform during repair works.
