PEMEX to lease five offshore drilling facilities

HOUSTON -- State-run Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) seeks to lease five offshore drilling facilities including a semisubmersible or drillship for deepwater in the Mexican sector of the Gulf of Mexico and four drilling rigs for shallow waters.
"As part of the effort to maintain production of petroleum and natural gas and to increase its reserves, Petroleos Mexicanos is promoting exploratory activity in the GoM," PEMEX said in a statement in Spanish.
The company seeks bids for a semisubmersible or drillship to operate in water depth of at least 4,200 ft (1,280 m) with a drilling capacity of at least 25,000 ft (7,620 m). The lease will extend from June 26, 2009, to June 24, 2012.
The first of four other rigs will operate in water depths of at least 350 ft (107 m) and have a minimum drilling capacity of 25,000 ft (7,620 m). The lease will extend from Feb. 17, 2009, to April 12, 2011.
The other three rigs will operate in water depth of at least 250-ft (76-m) deep with a minimum drilling capacity of 20,000 ft (6,096 m) in Sonda de Campeche. The leases will vary from 776 days to 1,176 days starting in 2009. One will conclude in 2010 and the others in 2012.
Bids will be opened on Dec. 1, 2008.
