Welding distortion is the key factor of those that affect the distortion of ship structure. Common distortions generated in the production process of the hull’s double bottom block are the key and difficult part in shipbuilding.
As the experience in hull building shows, distortions generated in the welding process of parts and blocks hugely complicated the assembly and electric welding of hull. When folding the blocks, rectification and chipping will consume plenty of time once the welding distorts. The consequently post-welding rectification of structure distortion, which consumes a lot of time and money, will surely affect the whole economic returns and the building schedule.
Methods to eliminate welding distortion are anti-distortion method, rigid fixation method and the correct regulation and proposal for assembling and welding technology, etc. Solving this problem will have a great influence on shipbuilding.
