"dead man's brake" is a brake/mechanism which stops the engine/ device while in emergency for safety purpose or "man would be killed and dead". In Chinese,we shouldn't directly translate it as "死人刹车”,but "紧急刹车”。
Sometimes, in a professional description, we would find one just said "in emergency the dead man will act ...." . In this case, we should understand one was saying about "dead man's brake", not "dead man" as someone said in the street.
For example, one said:
"This Airport Trolley is supplied as standard with a "reverse brake" or "Dead man brake" the handle needs to be depressed for the trolley to move ".
I think "dead man" is just a term for scaring/reminding people that the device must be able to stop in emergency. |
