heading difference monitor是什么意思？

今天在船上看了个设备
简称是HDM
问了下全称好像是heading difference monitor
但是不知道是什么意思？
有哪位大侠知道的告知下。。谢谢。。

For the auto pilot equipment fitting onboard ship,the officer set a required heading(ship's
bow direction) firstly. However, there would be difference between the actual heading
and required heading in sailing due to the influence of wind,current and steering. A monitor is thus required to alerting and monitoring as necessary so as to give adjustment in navigation.
