I heard the 'floating drum' before. The basic theory is simple. Floating drums are connected with the structure. Only if the buoyancy provided by drums is enough, structure can be lifted. The key, I think, is how to bond the drums with the structure. This is the most important and very difficult. I never see pictures or videos about this aspect. About 6 years ago, I saw the video 'Kursk salvage'. The salvage process impressed me deeply, especially the adapted barge, 26 lift cables and the special umbrella clip.
For the sanjin PCTC, the trouble is that the ship has turned over to one side. At the same time, the depth of the water is relative shallow. How adjusting the ship to normal status is a huge challenge. |
