D-R is a billion-dollar-plus company with nearly 5,000 people who
have the knowledge and skills to serve clients around the world

Nearly 100,000 units have been shipped

Most equipment is engineered to order to client and industry specifications that meet extreme variations in operating conditions on all continents

Dresser-Rand Company was formed in 1987 as a partnership which combined the common business activities of Fortune 500 firms Dresser Industries of Dallas, TX and Ingersoll-Rand Company of Woodcliff Lake, NJ.

But this history is really the combined heritage and experience of the most recognized and respected names in the energy industry (see list on screen). Over the years, these are the companies that were
merged to form today’s Dresser-Rand and the process continues with the addition of Tuthill Energy Systems and Gimpel Valves.

The history of Dresser-Rand is really the combined heritage and experience of the most recognized and respected names in the energy industry – Clark, Ingersoll-Rand, Moore, Terry, Turbodyne, Worthington, Coppus, Murray, Nadrowski and Gimpel.

While Dresser-Rand is relatively new, the company’s roots can be traced to 1840 when Henry R. Worthington designed and built the first direct-acting steam pump. Later, in 1880, Solomon R. Dresser, in Bradford, Pennsylvania, received a patent for a coupling that made it possible to join sections of pipe. Also in 1880, Clark Brothers Company was founded in Belmont, New York to manufacture equipment for the agricultural and timber industries.

This shows the progression of the company through mergers and acquisitions.
Dresser-Rand
itself was formed in 1987 as a joint venture of two industry greats - IR and Dresser Industries.
The
Wall-Street Journal reported D-R as being the most successful joint venture in the United States.
In October 2004, First Reserve Corporation purchased Dresser-Rand from Ingersoll-Rand. Less than a year later, D-R became a publicly traded company with its stock listed on the NYSE and acquired certain assets of Tuthill Energy Systems (Coppus, Murray, and Nadrowski).
In the spring
of 2007, D-R acquired Gimpel Valves from Tyco Corp.
